NUTRI-SERVE FOOD MANAGEMENT, INC.

September 2007

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Nutri-Serve Food Management, Inc. will once again be managing the food service program at Northern Burlington County Regional School District. We are looking forward to serving your children nutritious, tasty, and appetizing meals. In partnership with you, we would like to assist in teaching children about good nutrition and help develop good eating habits.

Here are some highlights of our program.

Ordering: Students will have their choice of four hot entrees daily. Also offered on a daily basis are “Grab and Go” sandwiches, wraps, and assorted salads, including chicken Caesar salad. Fresh and chilled fruits and a bread basket are also available. We encourage students to eat fresh fruit.

Service: The “Offer vs. Serve” program is in place in the district. Students have the option to choose all five of the following lunch components or to take a minimum of three lunch components. In this program children are not required to take an item if they absolutely do not want it.

The five components offered each day are:

1. Meat or Meat Alternative
2. Enriched bread, rice or pasta
3. Fresh or chilled fruit or juice
4. Cold or hot vegetable
5. Choice of Milk
**Bonus foods are offered occasionally.

Selection: The key to having well-balanced nutrition is variety and moderation. Ala Carte items are available to students daily. In an attempt to help students make “sensible ala carte choices” Nutri-serve offers single serve (one portion) items that are baked, low fat or sugar free. Items offered vary from day to day. Examples of some items that we offer are:

Fresh Fruit, Pure Fruit Juice (4 oz), Soft Pretzels, Pretzel Rods, Fresh Air Popped Popcorn, Pudding Cups made with low fat milk, Baked Chips, Fresh Baked Cookies, and all flavors and varieties of milk (skim, 1% to whole milk).

Flexibility in Payment: The school lunch price is $2.00 for paid lunches and $0.40 for students eligible for a reduce priced lunch

In September, only those students who were approved for reduced priced or free lunches during the previous school year will continue to be eligible until applications for the current school year have been approved, on or before October 15, 2007. All parents/guardians are encouraged to complete the lunch application and return it to the school as soon as possible. Each year the income requirements change, so those who were denied in previous years may now qualify.

You have the option to pay for your child’s lunch on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. To ensure that the money you send in is used to purchase lunch, it is suggested that you send a check payable to Northern Burlington County Regional Cafeteria Account. Please place the check/cash into an envelope and include the student’s full name, school ID number, and the amount enclosed. Your child should hand the envelope to the cashier during their lunch period.

As adults we understand that the more you know about good nutrition, the healthier you will be. Northern Burlington County Regional has a Nutritional Program in place. Nutri-serve meets with the Physical Education Department, Food Service Director, Students and Teachers to find ways to improve and provide information to students. Please visit us at www.nburlington.com, food services for more details.

Kids learn best by example, explain to them what is good for them and why. Encourage them to make healthy choices for themselves and to exercise regularly.

Thank you for your cooperation and assistance. If you should have any questions, please call me at (609) 298-3900, extension 4517 or via email at skelly@nburlington.com.

Sincerely,

Susan Kelley
